Ottawa Prospect's Three-Point Night Helps London Overcome Kingston
London picked up their 17th consecutive win by taking down Kingston in a shootout last night. Ottawa Senators prospect Blake Montgomery picked up two goals and an assist in the win.
Montgomery was one of the first players to transfer from the USHL earlier this season. The Senators drafted him during the fourth round of the 2024 NHL Draft.
The 6-foot-4 forward got the scoring started on a rush play with Sharks prospect Sam Dickinson. Montgomery charged towards the net and tucked home Dickinson's shot that trickled between the pads of Frontenacs' goaltender Mason Vaccari.
His second goal came on a neat passing play between Montgomery and Landon Sim that resulted in Montgomery slipping the puck into the far side of the net. The goal tied the game at three.
Montgomery now has five points in the last two games for London. Through nine games in the OHL, he now has seven points.
It was a tight game from beginning to end, with both teams holding the lead at different times. With the teams tied at four after 60 minutes, the game was ultimately decided in the shootout.
London now has three shootout wins in their last five games. While some may look at this as cause for concern, others would reply that great teams find a way to win. With 17 consecutive wins, it is hard to call London anything other than a great team.
This was also the third game that Easton Cowan has missed since last weekend. During his absence, players like Montgomery have stepped up to provide scoring for the team.
Montgomery is one of 11 players whose rights are owned by NHL teams. He has solidified himself as an important part of the depth that makes London a formidable team to play against.
Given their current success, some are saying that London is the favorite to repeat as OHL champions. This argument is especially strong given that they continue to win despite the lack of one of their top players in Cowan.
London's next game will be against Ottawa who they face for the second time in seven days.
