Ottawa Charge Will Host Montreal Victoire At Canadian Tire Centre
The PWHL's Ottawa Charge will host the Montréal Victoire at Canadian Tire Centre on Friday, December 6, with the game set to begin at 7:00 p.m. ET.
The Canadian Tire Centre has a capacity of just over 19,000 and will be the third Canadian NHL venue to host a PWHL game after a record of 19,285 fans attended a tilt between PWHL Toronto and PWHL Montréal at the Scotiabank Arena on Feb. 16, 2024. On Apr. 20, the two teams drew another record crowd of 21,105 fans at the Bell Centre in Montréal.
“We are excited for the opportunity to bring our game to the Canadian Tire Centre for the first time,” said Ottawa Charge General Manager Mike Hirshfeld. “This game is coming on early in our season, so we’re hoping to fill the place, as we’re going to need their energy when we face our closest rivals.”
Ottawa captain Brianne Jenner is also thrilled at the prospect of playing at the Senators’ building. “I’ve played in that arena many times, including in a World Championship setting. Our fans have earned that opportunity with how much they showed up last year. So, if we can fill that arena with really loud fans, I think it’s going to be such a fun environment.”
The game at Canadian Tire Centre will come quickly in the Ottawa Charge season–– the team’s third game. The Charge will open their second PWHL season by travelling to Place Bell to take on the Montréal Victoire on Nov. 30 at 5:00 p.m. ET. The Charge will then head back to Canada’s capital to play their home opener at TD Place against Toronto on Dec. 3 at 7:00 p.m. ET.
The Canadian Tire Centre game against Montréal will be the Charge’s last home game until January 11, as they will play five straight games on the road while Ottawa will be hosting the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Worlds Junior Hockey Championships.
Last season, the biggest attendance involving an Ottawa Charge game was at the neutral site venue of Little Ceasars Arena in Detroit on Mar. 16, where 13,736 fans watched Boston edge Ottawa 2-1 in a shootout. Ottawa’s largest home crowd of the inaugural season was 8,452 at TD Place on Apr. 27 in a 2-0 loss against Montréal.
