Oshawa Signs NCAA Forward & Philadelphia Flyers Prospect; Also Acquire Towering Forward From Windsor

The Oshawa Generals' big splash came a few days prior to Friday's OHL trade deadline when they acquired Nashville Predators prospect and Soo Greyhounds defenseman Andrew Gibson.

GM Roger Hunt announced two moves on Friday to strengthen the depth of his roster.

The first acquisition was the signing of Noah Powell, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound right-winger from Northbrook, Illinois.

Powell, 19, was drafted 148th overall in the fifth round of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers. He was a dominant offensive player in the USHL for the Dubuque Fighting Saints last season, leading the league in goals with 43.

Noah had been playing out the 2024-25 season in the NCAA for Ohio State University. He made his OHL debut in Oshawa's Friday night win against the 67's where he played on the team's top line alongside Calum Ritchie and Beckett Sennecke.

The Chicagolander has overcome hearing impairment throughout his hockey development and is ready to help achieve an OHL Championship with the Generals.

Elite Prospects wrote this about Powell's style of play in their 2024 draft guide:

"Powell’s an intelligent, inside-driven power forward who easily manipulates opponents. He baits defenders to charge at him, then intercepts them with a shoulder and attacks the inside. He deftly pulls pucks off the wall, often in highly creative ways."

The second move the Generals made was trading for 2005-born forward Ethan Martin from the Windsor Spitfires.

Below are the full details of the trade:

Oshawa Generals Receive:
LW, Ethan Martin ('05)
2024-25 season statistics: 30GP, 4G, 4A, 8PTS, 44PIM

Windsor Spitfires Receive:
C, Shawn Costello ('07)
2024-25 season statistics: 24GP, 2A, 2PTS
2028 3rd round pick
2026 4th round pick (OS)

Martin is a big man standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing over 220 pounds. His pace and skating hold him back at the OHL level, but he brings an extra level of physicality and grit to Oshawa's bottom-six forward corps.

From Windsor's perspective, this was an easy trade to make. Getting a young forward to add to their development system and a third and fourth-round pick for a player who plays limited minutes is a steal.
