"SAY WHAT?!" Original Misfit And Star Wars Fanatic William Karlsson Tells THN Who He'd Be If He Were A Superhero
LAS VEGAS -- Hockey and Star Wars is what fascinated Vegas Golden Knights center William Karlsson as a young boy in Sweden.
"Since I was a kid, I remember the prequels," Karlsson said recently during a chat with The Hockey News. "That's kind of when I got into it. The first one I saw was one, which was the fourth-ever movie.
"And then I watched the old movies. Super sad because I didn't realize Obi-Wan dies. So I was sad about that. But yeah, that's where it started."
Oof the Original Misfits with the Golden Knights and still an avid fan of Star Wars, Karlsson will step on the ice Wednesday to face the team that drafted him in 2011.
As part of our "SAY WHAT?!" series, here is a little more with Karlsson:
THN: What Star Wars character would you be, and why?
WK: "I would be Obi-Wan (Kenobi), because he's very calm. I think that fits me, (my) nature. Think before you act."
THN: What about superheroes? If you were a superhero, who would you be, and why?
WK: "Well, Batman has always been super popular since Christopher Nolan (began directing). Batman's always been cool ever since that. Spidey has always been a cool one too, because we had Toby McGuire when we were kids. So that's where it kind of started. So those two."
THN: Favorite thing about Las Vegas since moving here?
WK: "I do love the winters. I love the weather in the winter, so that's one of my favorite things. Everything's nearby, too. There's no traffic, it's nice out here."
THN: Typical date night with the wife?
WK: "Stay at home, watch a movie and then go to bed."
THN: What's a William Karlsson gameday pre-game meal?
WK: "It's either spaghetti pesto with some chicken, or it's just spaghetti meat sauce. I change it up. I just can't eat the same thing over and over."
THN: You're now one of three Original Misfits that are still on this team. Does that hold a special meaning for you?
WK: "I mean, yeah, I'm proud to still be here. I'm super happy. Been on this journey and hopefully, it continues for a few more years. It's just a cool thing to be able to say."
THN: What's the best thing about being a part of this organization?
WK: "Well, ever since Day 1, really, we've been winning, and we've maintained that for the majority of these seven years. And I think that's one of the good things. It's been a winning culture. It's always good to be in. And the owner wants to win, and everyone who works around the team wants to win. And also the organization does a great job of taking care of us players. So there's a lot to like."
