'An opportunity': Liverpool FC CEO tells fans that a 'reboot' is coming

Liverpool FC CEO Billy Hogan says a ‘reboot’ is coming to the club. It’s one that should generate plenty of debate at Anfield.

It's certainly been a summer of change at Liverpool. Virtually all of the coaching staff left as Jurgen Klopp headed out the exit door.

Arne Slot stepped into but not as a replacement, technically. While Klopp was Liverpool's manager, Slot is the head coach - a subtle change in the way things are thought about at Anfield now.

The Reds changed their sporting director, too, with Richard Hughes arriving from Bournemouth. But he's now working in a different environment to those who previously held the role.

Liverpool are now under a slightly different umbrella as FSG restructured their football division in 2024. Michael Edwards, the celebrated former sporting director at Anfield, leads that division, while his successor Julian Ward now also has a role.

It all comes as Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan talks about a 'reboot' at the club after Klopp's exit. Now, he says, comes the chance to shake things up and reorganise.

Klopp leaving "provided an opportunity for a reboot or reset and maybe to look at how things operate going forward", he told the BBC.

"Jurgen departing was a seismic decision but clearly the right decision for him and his family, so by extension the right decision for the club," Hogan explained.

"He was very clear about leaving the club in a better place than where he found it and I think he has done that. The timing of his announcement gave us an opportunity to go through a proper process."

But is it the right idea?

The reasons for the reboot make sense and it's clear that Liverpool are not done with it all. They'll wait for the dust to settle on the summer and then gradually alter how things operate.

But they've got to be careful here. After all, Liverpool's previous structure was incredibly successful - the Reds won every major trophy and were brutally unlucky not to win far more.

Changing things dramatically could be exactly what's needed in a post-Klopp world. It could also undo a lot of what's worked for the Reds in recent times.

And so it'll be interesting to see exactly what comes of this. Klopp's exit was always going to be a dramatic change for Liverpool and the club actually made it even more dramatic with an overhaul.

Let's hope that was the right decision as Liverpool's future is at stake.
