Police say one man is dead and another person has been critically injured after a late-night shooting in a Mississauga school parking lot.

Peel regional police say officers were called to the parking lot of Settlers Green elementary public school around 11 p-m.

They say a man in his 40s died shortly after the shooting and the other victim, who is under the age of 20, was sent to hospital in critical condition.

Police did not release any suspect descriptions and say no weapon has been recovered. (The Canadian Press)

The W-N-B-A is finally coming to Toronto in May 2026.

Kilmer Sports Ventures has been awarded a women's professional basketball team.

The as-yet-unnamed team will play out of Coca-Cola Coliseum, an arena in downtown Toronto at Exhibition Place.

It will be the first Canadian team in the league, which currently has 12 teams but is expanding. (The Canadian Press)

(Lost-Canadians)

Federal Immigration Minister Marc Miller tabled legislation today meant to extend citizenship to some children born outside of the country.

In 2009, the Conservative government changed the law so that Canadian parents who were born abroad could not pass down their citizenship, unless their child was born in Canada.

The bill would extend citizenship by descent beyond the first generation born outside of Canada.

The move comes after the Ontario Superior Court found the current system unconstitutionally creates two classes of Canadians, and gave Ottawa until June 19th to fix the problem. (The Canadian Press)

(Ont-Stolen-Cars)

Ontario Provincial Police say they have arrested two people in connection with the theft of various vehicles -- including classic cars -- worth a combined 3-million dollars.

O-P-P say officers in Lambton County began investigating last year and found some of the stolen cars earlier this month in Stirling, north of Belleville.

Police say they also seized 16 vehicles from the accused as proceeds of crime.

Two people from Stirling are facing numerous charges, including theft of motor vehicles over 5-thousand dollars, fraud and using forged documents. (The Canadian Press)

(Ont-Lottery-Theft)

Police say two people are facing charges after a store employee allegedly stole a winning lottery ticket worth 50-thousand dollars.

O-P-P say the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation notified them last December about a suspicious lottery win at a retail outlet in Mitchell, north of London.

They allege a store employee stole the winning ticket and then got one of their associates to claim the cash prize.

Two people are facing charges including fraud and theft over 5-thousand dollars, and are due in court at a later date. (The Canadian Press)

(Via-Rail-CEO)

A high-frequency rail project between Toronto and Quebec City is stirring questions about the future of Via Rail.

The so-called H-F-R is on track to start operations in about a decade and it promises to transport more passengers faster -- and more often.

But the swifter service also threatens to lure customers and cash away from Via Rail's main service, which derives the majority of its revenue from the central Canadian corridor.

Via C-E-O Mario Péloquin says the Crown corporation plans to discuss its funding model with the federal government in several years, but it intends to maintain service in Ontario and Quebec as well as on its long-haul routes. (The Canadian Press)
