Spain’s spot in the EURO 2024 final was confirmed with a 2-1 victory over France on Tuesday, but their captain’s participation in the game was almost thrown into doubt by an unfortunate incident.

During the celebrations at full-time, stewards rushed onto the pitch to deal with a pitch invader, only for one of them to slip and accidentally plant his foot on Álvaro Morata’s ankle.

The Spain striker was hurt by the incident and was later seen limping, with there being some suggestion he could be out of Sunday’s final.

But when asked about the incident at the team’s hotel on Wednesday morning, the Atlético de Madrid man laughed it off, joking that it was “only a yellow card” and confirming it left no lasting damage.

All’s well that ends well.
