Olympique Marseille blaze past Lazio in Greenwood race

According to The Athletic, Olympique Marseille have agreed a transfer with Manchester United for Mason Greenwood, offering far more than Lazio, while Roberto De Zerbi assures he’ll be treated ‘like my children.’

The Aquile had been eager to get the outcast, who tried to revitalise his career after domestic abuse charges by going on loan to Getafe.

However, the asking price was far too high and they tried to get him for €25m plus a huge percentage of the sell-on fee.

According to The Athletic reporter David Ornstein, that proposal has been blown out of the water by Olympique Marseille, who struck a deal with Manchester United.

It is worth €27.6m fixed transfer fee, €4m in add-ons and a large percentage of his future sale, up to 50 per cent.

Marseille protests against Greenwood move

This is proving a controversial decision, because the Mayor of Marseille publicly urged the club not to sign Greenwood considering his history and entirely obvious character flaws.

New Marseille coach De Zerbi spoke at a press conference today about the situation and tried to reassure everyone.

“First up, we have not signed him yet, so we’re talking about nothing. After that, he is a champion, an international level player.

“I don’t know what happened in the past. I think people who get into private lives without knowing are making a mistake.

“What I can say is that once a player signs for Olympique Marseille, they become like my children and I will protect them against anyone. If I need to give them a telling off or pin them to the wall, I will, but in front of people I will defend them like my children.”
