How Olympic speed skater Denny Morrison creates his own good fortune

People are always telling Canada’s Denny Morrison how lucky he is.

Considering his near-fatal motorcycle crash in 2015 and life-threatening stroke one year later, how lucky he is to be alive and how lucky he is to be in PyeongChang, competing at his fourth Olympic Games.

But luck is just part of the equation for the 32-year-old speedskater. He’s been told that he contributes to his own fortune through hard work, seizing opportunities and always looking for the positives in everything.

It’s something he now fully believes in.

“Hurdles and obstacles are really stepping stones to success, but if we don’t even attempt to overcome them, then we’ll never reach success,” said the four-time medal winner.

After Canada failed to qualify in the team pursuit, Morrison will leave South Korea without a medal, but certainly no less inspirational.
