Oilers Victory Pushes Rangers Over The Edge

EDMONTON -- A loss doesn't have to be a big deal.

Most teams learn from them and carry on with their season. Or, in the case of the Edmonton Oilers last year, you could pile up nine losses in 13 games and fire your head coach.

This year, they have flipped the script.

One team seemingly on the edge of the abyss is the New York Rangers. Who do they have to thank?

Apparently, the Oilers.

Earlier today, Elliotte Friedman reported that after Saturday night's loss, the Rangers are considering making some major trades.

Friedman reported, "In the aftermath of their 6-2 loss in Edmonton on Saturday, the Rangers have made it very clear they are interested in making moves and shaking up their roster."

While this is big news on its own, he dropped a bigger bomb later in the report.

"Among the names indicated are Chris Kreider and Jacob Trouba, although other options will be considered," Friedman revealed.

This is huge. Trouba is the team's current captain, but there were rumblings over the summer of a trade involving the big-hitting defender. Eventually, those murmurs quieted down as the pre-season kicked into gear.

But now, with the team sporting a 12-6-1 record, they have reached this point.

The Rangers have 25 points and are in the first Wild Card position in the Eastern Conference, but they have reached a point where they are seeking to make trades to shake things up.

Tonight, they play the St. Louis Blues, and if these rumors are to be believed, then sparks could begin to fly if the Rangers don't come away with a W.
