Oilers Reveal Surprise Evander Kane Injury

EDMONTON -- When it rains, it pours.

The Edmonton Oilers know something about bad things coming in bunches. They had "bunches" of bad seasons. Everything happened, from major injuries to poor performances and even worse trades.

The Oilers sustained several injuries last season on their journey to the Stanley Cup Final. Arguably, Evander Kane was the most injured player.

Kane has not played a single game this season, and given today's news, that trend is likely to continue into the playoffs.

The Oilers released a statement on the health of Kane. It turns out - there is more going on than just recovering from sports hernia surgery.

"Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane underwent successful knee surgery on Thursday in Edmonton," the statement begins. "It is expected that he will require four to eight weeks of recovery time."

"While this procedure is unrelated to his abdominal surgery in September, it will require him to pause his current rehabilitation schedule to recover from Thursday's operation."

A month ago, Kris Knoblauch revealed to the media that, "you are not going to see or hear anything on him for at least a month."

It was believed that Kane would be available to the Oilers in January. Knoblauch's revelation last month pushed things back, and this new information extends that by one to two months.

The worst-case scenario is that he has recovered from knee surgery by the middle of March. At that time, he would still need to complete his rehabilitation for his sports hernia surgery.

Add all of it up, and it sounds like Kane might come back during the playoffs, if he comes back at all.

Better stock up on umbrellas, Oilers fans.
