Oilers, Evander Kane, And The McDrai Show

EDMONTON -- "I thought tonight was a snoozer from the beginning, from both sides."

Connor McDavid wasn't happy with how the Edmonton Oilers started the game, but coming away with two points washed away any hard feelings from the opening frame.

Last night was the "Oilers-vs. Ilya Sorokin" show, as the Russian netminder single-handedly kept the New York Islanders in the game with his 38-save performance.

McDavid had a four-point night. He has 999 in his career.

Sights & Sounds

Evander Kane Enjoys "The McDrai Show"

Evander Kane is still recovering from his sports hernia surgery. But that didn't stop the Oilers winger from watching last night's game from the press box.

The winger was seen in the press box, chatting with people in the lounge area for media. He seemed in good spirits as his laughs could be seen (and heard) from across the hall. He observed the game alongside the Oilers goalie coach, Dustin Schwartz.

Odds & Ends

-McDavid was the man of the night. Following the game, I saw what looked like an orange jersey, but others assured me was actually a jock. Apparently, I need to educate myself on what jocks look like. Go figure.

-Jeff Skinner was definitely in the doghouse last night. With only 8:53 of ice time, while skating on the fourth line, he will have to do a lot in the next few games to avoid joining Kane in the press box.

-Brett Kulak played 20:54 last night. He was noticeable in a good way for most of the game.

-Evan Bouchard blasted eight shots on goal. For those who are concerned that he isn't shooting enough, hopefully, last night puts that to bed.

-Erik Sabrowski was waiting to meet a few Oilers once the media scrums had finished. He waited outside the locker room and went in once all the media left.
