Connor McDavid reportedly approves of Oilers' Ken Holland hire

By far the most important piece of the Edmonton Oilers organization appears to be fully on board with the team’s newest hire.

Former Detroit Red Wings boss Ken Holland — who is set to be announced as Edmonton’s newest general manager on Tuesday — has a ton of work ahead of him, but Connor McDavid seems to be behind the acquisition of the three-time Cup-winning GM.

Obviously we wouldn’t expect the captain of the club to say anything different, but having your franchise cornerstone backing the move — at least publicly — is a necessity in selling this hire to a (rightfully) jaded fanbase.

In April, McDavid called his frustration level “really, really high,” as the team missed the playoffs for the third time in four seasons since drafting No. 97 in 2015.

The Red Wings have failed to qualify for the Stanley Cups Playoffs each of the last three campaigns themselves and haven’t been past the first round since 2013, but they made the postseason 18 straight times with Holland at the helm before missing in 2016-17.

Detroit also won the Cup with Holland in charge in 1998, 2002 and 2008.
