OHL's Barrie Colts Stock Up On Stars Prospects, Landing Prospect Gardiner From Ottawa 67s
The OHL’s Barrie Colts are making a habit of acquiring Dallas Stars prospects. Last week, they landed defenseman Tristan Bertucci from the Flint Firebirds, and on Monday, the Colts acquired forward Brad Gardiner from the Ottawa 67s.
The Colts’ latest trade adds Gardiner to Barrie’s lineup in exchange for a second-round pick in 2026 that belonged to Saginaw, Barrie’s second-rounder in 2028, a third-rounder in 2027 that belonged to Kitchener, and a fourth-rounder in 2025 that belonged to Kitchener.
“Brad Gardiner is someone we watched often in U16 playing for the York Simcoe Express,” Colts GM-Coach Marty Williamson said in a news release Monday. “He’s proven himself to be a reliable two-way centreman in our league. We’re excited about adding Brad’s skillset, leadership, and experience to our group.”
The 19-year-old Gardiner was selected by the Stars in the third round of the 2023 NHL draft (79th overall), and he is coming off a 2023-24 regular season in which he posted 33 assists and 49 points with the 67s. In 188 career regular-season OHL games, Gardiner – the son of former NHLer Bruce Gardiner – has generated 38 goals and 95 points. He's joining a Colts team that intends to make waves this season, and Gardiner will have every opportunity to show the form that made the Stars want to invest in his services.
An Aurora, Ont., native, Brad Gardiner joins Bertucci and 2024 Stars draft pick Emil Hemming on the Colts’ 2024-25 roster. Brad Gardiner is also now the second member of his family to play for the Colts, as Bruce Gardiner suited up for them in the Central Ontario Junior B League from 1988-90.
