Ohio State Buckeyes punter Drue Chrisman had a spring game to remember on Saturday.

No, it wasn’t about his pair of 44-yard punts inside the 20; it was about what happened between the game action.

Chrisman brought his girlfriend, Avery Eliason, onto the field at halftime under the guise of a kicking competition for players’ girlfriends. The regular holder for field goals, Chrisman was already on one knee, but before she could kick the ball, he took it away and brought out a ring to propose to her.

Eliason quickly said yes, and the rest of the team mobbed the duo in the middle of the field.

“He’s the love of my life,” Eliason said. “I’ve known him since we were little. we grew up together, and we’ve just been through so much, and I’m so happy. It was unexpected. It’s a dream come true.”

According to Buckeyeextra.com, Chrisman discussed the ploy with athletic director Gene Smith, and Ohio State's compliance office also had to give permission to hold the proposal during the game on the field.

“I wanted to do it soon, and I thought this would just be a perfect opportunity,” Chrisman said. “This university has done so much for me, and to do it on this field in front of everybody, especially with her, this is just incredible.”

A redshirt junior, Chrisman is the returning starting punter for Ohio State. He ranked 32nd nationally with a 43.2 yard punting average. He expects a potential wedding with Eliason, who is a senior at BYU, to take place in about a year.
