Venezia announced that USMNT midfielder Gianluca Busio has extended his contract to June 2026. ‘I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.’

The 22-year-old first came to Italy for the Lagunari in the summer of 2021, completing a lucrative €6m transfer from Kansas City.

He has since played 99 competitive games for the club, 29 in Serie A, and helped them earn promotion via the play-offs this summer.

Injuries have kept Busio out of the squad so far, but he is expected to make his comeback next weekend in the top flight against Milan.

Busio happy to continue at Venezia

Meanwhile, he has much to celebrate, officially signing a new contract that extends his bond by one year to June 2026.

“I am really happy about this contract renewal,” Busio told the official Venezia FC website.

“There have been ups and downs, but I am proud to be able to wear the VFC jersey for even longer. The ownership and Director Antonelli over these years have really done a great job and I thank them so much for this opportunity.

“This is a special moment for me, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but here in Venice. When I arrived the club was in Serie A, unfortunately that year it didn’t go well for us but now we are back and our goal is to play in this category for a long time, because Venezia FC deserves the top division.”

The American has so far contributed eight goals and seven assists for the Lagunari in those 99 games.

Turning 22 in May, he also has 13 senior caps for the USMNT, scoring one goal and providing three assists.
