Andriy Lunin enjoyed his proper breakthrough season at Real Madrid in 2023/24 and it could see him winning a special individual honour.

Indeed, the 25-year-old Ukrainian international has been nominated for the 2024 Yachine Trophy award which will be presented at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in October.

The award is presented to the best-performing goalkeeper by former Ballon d’Or winners and has been in place since 2019.

Back in 2022, Real Madrid No. 1 Thibaut Courtois won the prestigious honour and this year, it could very well prove to be Lunin’s year.

Even though the Ukrainian had to step aside for Courtois in the Champions League final last season, he was a constant presence for most parts of the campaign as Real Madrid won three trophies.

Lunin ended the season with 31 appearances in all competitions and kept 12 clean sheets in the process.

The Real Madrid ace will be up against PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez, AC Milan and France star Mike Maignan, among others in the race for the Yachine Trophy.
