Lille centre-back Leny Yoro (18) has officially put pen to paper over a five-year deal with Manchester United, both clubs have announced, with the option to extend for a further year. The Lille-born 18-year-old was one of the most sought-after Ligue 1 players of the summer transfer window. After only playing 60 games with formative club Lille, Leny Yoro was expected to depart as he entered his final contract year with Les Dogues with major European powerhouses circling for his signing.

Manchester United fended off competition from PSG and Real Madrid to win the race to Leny Yoro’s signing by agreeing to a €70m total transfer fee with Lille president Olivier Létang, making him the most expansive Ligue 1 defender in history. He is set to wear the #15 jersey with the Red Devils. The highly-rated French center-back is the second signing of the INEOS era at Manchester United, after Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee.

Leny Yoro is expected to replace Raphaël Varane at the heart of the Red Devils’ defense. The Lille centre-back is set to play his first competitive game under the tutelage of Erik ten Hag on Friday, August 16, when Manchester United host Fulham FC at Old Trafford for the Premier League’s curtain-raiser. Leny Yoro is now tied to the Red Devils with a contract set to expire in 2029.
