Greek outfit Asteras Tripolis have confirmed the appointment of Claude Makélélé as their new manager via official social media channels. The former Chelsea midfielder is joined by former Leeds United coach Nigel Gibbs and former Paris Saint-Germain fitness coach Raphaël Fèvre at the helm.

Makélélé has not been in sole charge of a club since he left Juplier Pro League side Eupen in 2019. The former France international took charge of 70 games as manager of the Belgian club. The Champions League winner also spent time in charge of Bastia in 2014.

Despite not being head coach of a club for 5 years, the French coach has still been in coaching. Makélélé has spent time as a youth coach at Cobham and has been in charge of the development of loan players away from Chelsea. Foot Mercato report that the Frenchman has signed an initial one-year deal with Asteras Tripolis with the option for an additional year.
