Official: Barcelona renew Marc Bernal’s contract with €500 million release clause

As was reported over the past week, FC Barcelona have officially announced the contract renewal of teenage prodigy Marc Bernal.

The 17-year-old had signed a new contract with the club only this past summer with the new deal running until 2026.

However, Barça have now gone ahead and offered the teenage La Masia prodigy improved terms until 2026, while also securing an option to further extend the contract by three more years, effectively tying him down until 2029.

On top of that, Barcelona have also inserted a mammoth €500 million release clause in the teenage midfielder’s contract.

“FC Barcelona and Marc Bernal have reached an agreement on an adjustment of the player’s contract, which binds him to the club until 30 June 2026, when his status as an U19 player ends, with the option to three more years,” the statement from the club read.

“The buyout clause has been set at €500 million.”

The move is a show of trust and faith from the Catalans in the youngster’s ability after he suffered a season-ending knee injury last month.

As has already been reported, as part of his new wages, Bernal will also be receiving the add-ons that he would have earned if he had carried on playing this season.

One of the most gifted youngsters to come through the La Masia ranks in recent years, Bernal is currently recovering from his ACL injury and is only expected to return in the next season.
