As the days go by, FC Barcelona is seen making more official announcements. The club has finally kicked into second gear and bigger consequences will now be looked at. For Barcelona, the coming days will be extremely crucial moving forward.

Barcelona have already officially announced that Sergino Dest will no longer be staying at the club. The American fullback is set to join Dutch Eredivisie side PSV until 2028 after the two clubs have formally agreed to his transfer. However, that departure did not grant Barça an immediate injection of funds, and neither will their latest one.

As made official by FC Barcelona today, 33-year-old Spanish fullback Marcos Alonso will be parting ways with the club indefinitely. The fullback will leave the club as a free agent, now that his contract with FC Barcelona has finally expired.

Since joining in 2022 as a free agent from Premier League side Chelsea, Alonso has played 45 games with FC Barcelona. Across these games, the former Chelsea man played both as a left-back and as a center-back according to the needs of the head coach.

Under Xavi Hernandez, Alonso was never exactly a starter or guarantee on the team sheet. However, he was a reliable utility player who was always willing to play and devote himself to the club whenever the team needed him to fill up any role in the back line.

His discipline and professionalism have both been praised in the past, and it made him a liked figure in the Barcelona dressing room as well. Now, however, both parties will look to move on and go towards a new chapter. Barcelona have Hansi Flick in charge now as he looks to build a more competitive team, while Alonso may even end up departing Europe to continue playing.

This now means that two possible fullbacks have left Barcelona already this summer. With both Dest and Alonso now officially departing, the club may have to be careful about how they reinforce those positions. Especially over at the right-back position, with even Joao Cancelo’s loan having expired, Barcelona practically have little to no depth.
