Barcelona youngster Vitor Roque, currently on loan at Real Betis, has suffered an injury setback early in his tenure in Seville.

Indeed, Los Verdiblancos have officially confirmed that the 19-year-old Barça loanee has been sidelined with an ankle injury.

“Following tests carried out by the club’s medical services on our player Vítor Roque, a low-grade sprain of the internal ligament of his left ankle has been confirmed. The prognosis will depend on the evolution of the process,” the statement read.

The teenage striker was said to have been dealing with discomfort in his ankle since Real Betis’ last game against RCD Mallorca.

As such, he was left out of the squad list for their upcoming game against Las Palmas, with manager Manuel Pellegrini confirming the news of the fitness problem.

“He had a hard blow to his ankle in the last match, yesterday he was already in more pain and they are examining the cause of the injury,” said Pellegrini earlier today (h/t AS).

Now, after carrying out medical tests, Betis have confirmed that Roque has done some damage to his ankle and will be sidelined for some time.

While an exact timeline for his recovery has not been specified, reports in Spain suggest that the young striker could be out for around two weeks.

This comes as a blow for Roque, who had shown positive signs early in his stint at Betis, although he has been guilty of missing some decent goalscoring chances.

The youngster will now hope to make a swift recovery and return to action at the earliest possible.
