As Barcelona gear up to take on Getafe in their first La Liga game of 2025, they are all set to welcome defender Andreas Christensen back into the squad.

The 28-year-old Dane has played just one game this season – the season-opener vs Valencia back in August and has since been out on the sidelines due to his Achilles tendinopathy issues that have bothered him for a long time now.

After having undergone surgery, Christensen completed his recovery a while ago and has been working his way back to full fitness in recent weeks.

The defender has been training with the group for some days now but was not considered for selection for the Spanish Super Cup or the Copa del Rey clash vs Real Betis earlier this week.

However, following today’s training session, Barcelona have confirmed that the former Chelsea man has received the green light from the medical department to return to action.

As such, the Danish centre-back will be in the squad list for tomorrow’s game against Getafe away at Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

Christensen’s return comes at the right moment for Barcelona after they recently lost veteran defender Inigo Martinez to a hamstring injury, which will keep him out of action for four weeks.

There have been some rumblings about Christensen’s future at Barça this month, especially after Ronald Araujo’s decision to continue amidst interest from Juventus.

Manchester United, for one, are said to be interested, although it remains to be seen if there are any movements.

For now, though, the defender will be happy to be back in action for a prolonged absence and will be eager to get back on the field.
