French striker Anthony Knockaert (32) has announced his retirement from professional football, effective immediately. The Roubaix-born winger joined Ligue 2 side Valenciennes last September as a free agent. Unfortunately, Anthony Knockaert could not prevent “VA” from going down in National 1, France’s third tier. At 32, Anthony Knockaert has called time on his career through a post on his Instagram account. “Today, I write to you with a mixture of emotion and gratitude to announce my retirement from professional football.”

Anthony Knockaert adds that this decision to hang up his boots has not been easy but, after much reflection, he believes it was time for him to “turn the page and start a new chapter in his life.” The 32-year-old has also paid tribute to one of his former clubs, Brighton and Hove Albion, mentioning his time with the Seagulls remain “the best years of his career.

Anthony Knockaert started at Guingamp before embarking on a career spanning more than ten years, playing for Leicester City, Royal Standard de Liège, Brighton, Fulham FC, Nottingham Forest, Volos FC, Huddersfield Town and Valenciennes. He won two Championship titles, one with the Foxes (2014) and one with the Cottagers (2022).
