Official: Amad Diallo wins Manchester United’s Player of the Month

Amad Diallo has officially won Manchester United’s Player of the Month award for August.

Amad, 22, has firmly established himself in Erik ten Hag’s squad this year after an impressive pre-season for the club.

United’s tour of the US this summer was an excellent one for the winger who featured in every friendly. Ten Hag was pleased with his progress after challenging Diallo to make the 2024/25 season his breakout year.

“We have to see Amad in a different way,” the Dutchman told MUTV in July. “Of course he’s still young, but he’s not inexperienced anymore. Last season he had bad times with bad injuries, before that he was in the Championship and had a great season.”

“At the end of last season he had a very good time in our first team, played some good games. Now this has to be the year. It’s great that he starts like this,” Ten Hag concluded after the winger scored during United’s 2-0 win over Rangers.

Amad has started all three games of the new season – Manchester City, Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion – producing positive moments in each.

He scored in United’s last game, a disappointing 2-1 loss to Brighton. Amad’s goal was excellently taken, however, and unlikely to be his last this season based on recent showings.

Amad was nominated for the award alongside new signing Noussair Mazraoui and fellow winger Alejandro Garnacho.

The club’s website reveals the young Ivorian drew “more than half of all votes”, underscoring just how popular his performances have been with the Red Devils fanbase.

“The 22-year-old took 53 per cent, with Mazraoui and Garnacho tussling for the other spots on the podium. The Moroccan full-back just managed to claim silver, winning 24 per cent of the overall support, while Garnacho came in third, with 22 per cent.”

Amad will be hoping to build on his strong start to the season by maintaining his place in Ten Hag’s starting eleven as United welcome bitter rivals Liverpool to Old Trafford on Sunday.
