Adams’ exit comes as the club find themselves in danger of dropping down into Ligue 2, sitting second-from-bottom in the table with 15 points, two below Stade Rennais, who occupy the relegation playoff and three below AS Saint-Étienne for a guaranteed place in the top-flight next season.
His exit comes amid Téji Savanier’s (33) rumoured departure as well, with the club’s top goalscorer in the league last season (11 goals), being approached by Saudi Arabian side Al-Taawoun.
Montpellier have won their last two league fixtures, as many triumphs as they enjoyed in the first 17 matches of the domestic campaign.
In both encounters, the Nigerian was left on the bench, with Jordanian Musa Al-Taamari (27) notching a brace in their 2-1 victory versus AS Monaco.
Adams came to Montpellier from Lillestrøm in August 2023, scoring 15 goals in 15 appearances in the 2023 Norwegian top-flight season.
