NUFC want PL forward Liverpool are scouting, he’s Howe’s No.1 target & Wilson could be offered as makeweight – report
Newcastle United are keen on recruiting the services of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, with manager Eddie Howe an admirer of the Cameroon international, according to the Sun. However, the Magpies have fierce competition to beat for the Bees star as Liverpool are also keen. The Reds have been scouting Mbeumo all season and he has now caught the attention of manager Arne Slot following his impressive start to 2024-25. Newcastle are willing to offer Callum Wilson as a potential makeweight in a deal, with Howe making the 25-year-old his number one target.
The Brentford forward has notched eight Premier League goals and one assist in 11 appearances this term after ending last term with nine league goals and six assists.
He bagged nine league goals in 2022-23, weighing in with eight assists, and his ability to play in any of the front three roles has made him attractive to both Newcastle and Liverpool.
Mbeumo would cost around £50 million, and while the Toons would love to sign him in January, the Bees will not be keen on selling one of their best players during the campaign, and suitors will have to wait until summer.
Newcastle could lose Sweden international striker Alexander Isak if they fail to secure European football at the end of the season.
Wilson has been linked with Brentford and a couple of Premier League clubs of recent, and the Bees could be open to a player-plus-cash deal if they are convinced he has what it takes to improve their attack.
Mbeumo will not be short of suitors at the end of the season if he maintains his impressive form, and pipping Liverpool and some of the bigwigs to his services could prove difficult for Newcastle.
