that that is rewarding for all I may chase but I say that he's going to find that his life is going to be able to settle down. >> He's going to have more time for himself so you know enjoy that for sure. Osborne's retirement in july means the province could see its fourth by election in one year. But some are speculating a general election may be called sooner than october 2025. >> The premier has some tough decision making to do and for a key area like her waterford valley and with a minister who held such a profile premier furey being the only one to guarantee it let us in on that secret. But we're always ready and remember we're here and we hear a lot of change at the doors. It's a mood for change out there and we just got to be, you know, ready to you know, to embrace that and put our best foot forward. >> Whenever an election is called bailey howard ntv news this week in the house of assembly it came to light that a recent bill for changes to the province's limitations act had been leaked before it had been tabled and seen by all members of the house. Well now justice minister john hogan is calling for an investigation that could delay the legislature and as the legislation is currently written it won't help those people like jack whalen, a man who was touted for bringing toward bringing forward the changes last summer will and shared his story while driving a replica jail cell of one similar to what he spent hundreds of days in at the former whitburn boy's home in the 1970s. In response to this week's news, whalen's daughter brittany, who's also his lawyer, says that time is a luxury that their family doesn't have as jack will and fights to life threatening illnesses. She says her father delayed cancer treatments to protest the unjust law and to raise awareness about what happened to him as a youth in government care. Whalen hopes his efforts and sacrifice will not be in vain and that the leaked document won't delay things any further for he and the others that are calling for justice, compensation and closure. >> Well, it's time now for another look at our weather forecast. May month is zipping by. Oh my goodness. And it doesn't feel like it even really hit yet. No, because we still have the capelin weather to go. >> We do. There have been no real may flowers in the east yet. >> Tulips are trying to fight their way out. You can see them here and there. And it looks like unfortunately amanda on the island and certainly in the capital region we're not going to see double digit temperatures yet again for well maybe the next couple of days. Other parts of the province though, including labrador are going to be feeling like they're in the throes of july month with temperatures as high as 20 degrees. Here's a look right now at what we're seeing downtown saint john's. It is only four degrees here at the end of may and our live shot showing the harbour a little bit of a windy one on the avalon and certainly rainy that rain extending all the way to conception bay south and points west for the next 24 hours. Let's take a look at our satellite radar imagery first bringing us to around 6:10 we see mostly overcast skies and some isolated bands of precipitation as that radar moves between bonavista bay and going to continue to see some light precipitation in some regions including corner brook throughout the evening tonight and port of basque. Not the case though for labrador. So the lows and conditions on the east just two degrees into saint john's and overcast skies. Some fog throughout the evening tonight a little bit more precipitation is expected this evening and temperatures again going to feel very cool into central newfoundland as well. But no real active weather for you with the exception of some winds out of the north northwest gusting to 50. That's what's driving those temperatures down for tomorrow. Your highs bring only single digits for the avalon but sun and cloud you're going to wake up to mostly overcast skies in the avalon region for tomorrow but make way to sunny skies for the afternoon. Still a little bit on the cool side. Single digit temperatures by the time you break through the isthmus into clare and bill you get back into the teens around 14 degrees ten for gander 13 and mary's down under sun and cloud. Those winds though remaining out of the north at around 25 to the northern peninsula, west coast and southern regions as mentioned this evening, some rain in that forecast for you and those areas. Single digits down to just two degrees for corner brook. Only one in deer lake and zero into grand falls windsor your monday forecast looks like a good one. Temperatures in the mid teens sun and cloud for all with the exception of port of basque you're going to see a rainy monday. >> Up to labrador your forecast looks really really good for tomorrow but first you got to get through cool temperatures tonight round one and zero degrees for most everyone. Doesn't really matter whether you're inland or coastal. Pretty much everyone is going to be contending with the same system here. Clear skies for all. You wake up on your monday and you have a great day in store. Look at these beautiful temperatures 12 degrees for nain 14 into hopedale, 16 for michael vick and 18 into cartwright trans labrador regions going to see temperatures as high as 20 degrees from happy valley goose bay into labrador city. >> Nothing but sun and cloud.

>> Well, one week from today one of the largest single day patient transfers in the history of the province will occur when the new western memorial regional hospital in corner brook opens for the first time. >> The transfer of equipment and supplies from the current western memorial hospital to a new 164 bed acute care facility on the outskirts of corner brook got underway last week with ten days set aside for that process. The final day of the transition will take place one week from today. So that's june the 2nd when the new health care complex opens for the first time. On that day all individuals receiving inpatient treatment at the current hospital will be relocated to the new site for that day only to avoid pedestrian traffic throughout the new hospital. Visitation will be restricted to only those who have previously received approval from the health authority. Newfoundland and labrador health services spokesperson peter antle says the entire patient move is expected to be completed in just one day with all services and health care delivery resuming at normal as normal rather at the new location on monday june the 3rd . >> On june the second both hospitals will have teams of staff there providing patient care. We'll transport each patient one by one to this new facility but at 6 A.M. on june the 2nd we'll do a cut over on the emergency department so the emergency department will officially be opened here at the new site and the other one will close there. We do have contingency plans in to support if people do arrive at the the current site on that day that we're able to transport them here to emergency. But effectively at 6 A.M. on sunday june the 2nd this will be the the official hospital for the region two an update now on an emergency recall notice issued from the newfoundland labrador liquor corporation four neutral promotional tumbler cups over there safety concerns. The alcoholic cooler beverage promotional tumblers tumblers rather were offered as a free gift with purchase through the nlc in april and may. >> Last week the nlc said the company and health canada issued a recall and they offered notice based on testing to date. The manufacturer sun scope has determined some of the tumblers might contain a chemical cleaning solution that's been trapped in between the inner walls of the tumbler containing some levels of sulfuric and phosphoric acid and when liquid is added to the tumbler the solution could be released. Ingestion has led to effects like burning of the lips, tongue, stomach and other tissue damage as well as nausea ,vomiting and cramps and contact with the substance could cause blistering burns. If you have the product you should stop using it immediately and contact health canada for more information. >> Well, it was a tense week at the house of assembly as members raised a long list of topics and question period from grocery prices to health care recruitment and housing. But throughout this week's sitting the liberals doubled down on their stance that there were many items that could be funded if it weren't for the $740 million rape mitigation decision which they say was forced on them by the tories. >> Ntv's bailey howard tells us more. The liberals say their hands are tied. >> If you can find a way that I can come up with the $740 million just this year alone to make sure that newfoundlanders and labradorians don't freeze in their homes then we will consider doing what you want. >> Thank you. >> On may 16th minister of industry, energy and technology andrew parsons and now hydro ceo jennifer williams announced a rate mitigation plan. That plan will subsidize power rates until 2030. It's an expensive feat. At the house of assembly this week, pc leader toni wakeham questioned the liberals on food costs. >> I asked the minister has government established a targeted food poverty reduction plan? >> Normally the minister of industry, energy and technology wouldn't answer questions about food security although it is an issue that is of importance to everybody. But I again have to point out that we would love to be able to do more again. There was more even done in the last budget. We would love to do more but when we had to contribute almost three quarters of $1 billion to ensure that all newfoundlanders and labradorians will not freeze at home. >> That's the answer that I would provide to that question. Minister parsons pointed the finger across the floor at the tories for putting pen to paper on muskrat falls. He says that decision by the then tory premier kathy dunderdale to sign a federal financing deal for the project more than a decade ago is now halting the current government from making financial decisions including supporting seniors. >> And we're asking questions about seniors and we're asking questions about poverty reduction. >> Listen to the answers for those people watching that $740 million. That could be doing a lot for seniors. I would say look around and realize that a lot of

decisions aren't ours. >> They were left to us by you and your pc party friends and persons gave the same response again. >> When addressing health care travel. It was the minister aware the minister of health aware of the people in western newfoundland that have to travel to grand falls windsor for eeg appointments. >> And one of the biggest decisions we had to make was to spend to clean up the mess that he and his colleagues and their previous leader and our previous leader made. >> Despite the opposition calling on the health minister and children seniors and social development minister to answer persons responded to most of the questions. >> While we don't choose who in the opposition gets up there ask questions. I can guarantee you they certainly do not get to dictate who on this side gets to answer those questions. >> While he says some decisions could be made if it weren't for the financial burden, the minister didn't respond to the tories calls to index the seniors benefit to inflation or the creation of a poverty reduction plan. Bailey howard news a free safety training program is now available for users of off road vehicles. >> As the province prepares to make training mandatory for some users later this year, the training will be required for anyone who's under 16 is registering an off road vehicle for the first time and anyone who's been convicted of an offense resulting in their off road vehicle registration being suspended or canceled. Anyone supervising a person under 16 who's operating an off road vehicle must verify that the young person's completed the training program. >> Details on it can be found on the provincial government's website. Well the town of gander is about to take ownership of their new sport complex and multiplex I should say. >> And special olympics athletes believe it's going to be a big boost to their organization. Interviews colleen lewis has the story. >> The $7 million outdoor soccer field and running track has been significantly delayed. But by mid-june the new multiplex will be hosting the first of many sporting events. This week the coordinator of the gander wing special olympics team says she expects it will change the sport and help athletes improve their game. For special olympics it's going to be really good for us because we have clubs right across the province and so to have a centrally located facility of this caliber and being able to host camps and competitions it will certainly cut down on the travel time and the travel expense for clubs. So I think we'll we'll see more competitions and with more competitions I think our athletes will continue to improve and excel. >> There have been several delays in the construction but dr. Casey says the athletes are more than ready to be in training for competition. >> For our special olympics club we certainly we've carried on throughout that time so even without the track we've we've carried on and our club has even grown we've gone from eight athletes up to 15 this season. So our mental our momentum has certainly continued but you know athletics has been something that's not been available here for a very long time. So there's going to be a quite a bit of rebuilding but with such a beautiful facility I'm hoping to see that happen. >> For ntv news I'm colleen lewis in gander. >> All the number of candidates have come forward vying for the role of ffa president. Current president greg pretty says he will not be putting his name in the ring as he is set to retire later this year and says he hasn't decided which candidate he will be backing at this time. >> First of all I'm retiring and so my my last day will be november 19th of this year. >> There's an election in place and despite all the brouhaha you've heard over the last couple of years, I've been there for 16 months. >> I think I've said I've changed the tone. >> I've put more emphasis on this fishery than than a lot of people because we have two staff people running for the president. The highest positions it's local. >> So I'm not at this not at this point but we don't know who's running. We know two people came out publicly. I don't know if there's anybody else in the hopper so I'll just park that for the time being. >> With the 39th annual george street festival lineup announced and 11 separate events set to hit the street this summer, the provincial government's awarded the downtown safety coalition $100,000 to make downtown a safer place. >> And I'm proud to announce that as of this morning our provincial government. Thank you so much, minister hogan, minister crocker, everybody who is at work has officially given us $100,000 to continue with safety patrol and the downtown this summer.
