It was a crew in the service of the lord so to speak. >> It was a salvation army crew armed with a 16 millimeter film camera. >> Their job was to document a summer crusade of the army. Part of their outreach program into the outpost communities of newfoundland. The production was a film record which is what you're looking at today. It was unintentional but it's a picture of a time past a snapshot of communities many of which have now been resettled in the foreground often members of the army and their worked. Sometimes you see them at play fooling around so to speak and various things. They seem happy enough, he adds parenthetically the background however is newfoundland at least newfoundland the way it was not the way we remember it sometimes the way it actually was the skiffs and the dories, the soft box houses, the vegetable gardens, the fields, the whole thing. That's the way it was some day and time is getting short and I have to sit down with someone who can tell me exactly which communities these are that knowledge is being lost. Very quickly I wonder what the issues were then when these pictures were taken on this film was taken was it about trap births or the community war or when the collector boats were coming around? You know, when these pictures were taken it was all cod salted cod saltwater dried cod plate freezers, cod blocks and we're still a long ways off in the future. The salvation army remains many of the communities are gone. All of the people in the film are gone. In a release the agency did a deep dive on the incident calling the man's actions stupid, irresponsible and a shocking disregard for the orcas welfare. Social media users overwhelmingly agreed with most slamming the alleged body slammer but with some also decrying the $600 fine levied against him by officials as simply not enough. >> Now just a more positive maritime news the wreck of one of the most storied U.S. navy submarines of world war two has been found. The uss harter was sunk in a battle in the philippines in 1944 and was thought lost to the ages until recent data was provided by the lost 52 project, a group efforting to find all 52 U.S. submarines lost in world war two. Eight decades later the sub which had the motto of hit them harder was found sitting upright and mostly intact 3000ft down in the south china sea. >> Finally, it wasn't a long lost ship found by this scuba diver. More like a long lost chip so to speak.
