Ntv's been clear we visited a cemetery where many of the newfoundland regiment are known to be buried. >> Toni-marie we're here at ankara cemetery. It's just down the road from beaumont hamill. Hundreds of soldiers who fought and died in the great war are buried here and dozens of soldiers who fought and died for the royal newfoundland regiment. Soldiers like private mcdougall who fought on july 1st and died in 1916 at the age of 20 three . >> It means a lot to come here to pay our respects especially

this year for whom we're bringing our unknown newfoundland hero soldier back to newfoundland. I think every newfoundland will be proud that we bring them home especially for those people that can afford to make a trip to france to see it for themselves. So it's very humbling and very honoring to be here. >> Toni marie we'll have more from the trail of the caribou coming up on the tv evening news hour. >> A massive landslide has hit a remote region of northern papua new guinea. The red cross there says more than 100 people are feared dead and that number could be much higher at news time. >> Cnn's anna coren has more. Emergency crews in papua new guinea are trying to access a remote village in enggor province in the north of the country where a landslide is believed to have killed more than 100 people. Around 3 A.M. on friday, kilcullen village, situated in the highlands was hit by an enormous landslide flattening houses. >> One eyewitness said that the entire village was gone. Pictures and video on social media show villagers trying to find survivors in the earth and rubble large boulders, tree trunks and collapsed buildings scatter the earth. One resident said the debris was making it hard to find the bodies. The highway to the area has been cut off making it inaccessible for rescue workers to get to the scene of this natural disaster. A red cross official told cnn that a recent earthquake in heavy rainfall in the area may have been responsible for triggering the deadly landslide. >> There was a 4.5 earthquake in the area about four days ago so that could have shaken things up a bit. Opened up some cracks. If rain followed you, you'd possibly get the weakening and then sometimes these landslides in those circumstances just happened like this one died overnight with seemingly no cause. >> The prime minister of papua new guinea, james marape issued a statement saying we are sending in disaster officials png defense force and the department of work and highways to meet provincial and district officials in anger and also start relief work. Recovery of bodies and reconstruction of infrastructure. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the landslide disaster. The scale of destruction is enormous and many fear the death toll will rise. >> Anna coren, cnn, hong kong. The extreme heat smothering much of mexico has killed dozens of people across multiple states over recent weeks. 22 people in the last ten days alone. That's according to a health ministry report released on thursday. And hotter temperatures are forecast for the coming days. Mexico has been reeling from a high pressure weather phenomenon known as heat dome which has trapped hot air over much of the country, creating record breaking temperatures that have surpassed 45°c in some places. China says it is testing its ability to seize power as it begins second a second day of military drills around taiwan. China's started its second day of war drills around taiwan today with the aim to test its ability to quote, seize power and occupy key areas. A spokesperson for the eastern theater command of china's people's liberation army said the drills are meant to quote test the ability to jointly seize power, launch joint attacks and occupy key areas. On friday, taiwan defense ministry said 49 chinese aircraft flew into taiwan's air defense identification zone between 6 A.M. thursday to 6 A.M. on friday local time. A total of 19 chinese warships and seven coast guard vessels were also detected near the taiwan strait during that same time. >> New research shows weekly injections of semaglutide medications like ozempic cut the risk of severe outcomes from diabetic kidney disease. Overall the risk including kidney failure and death from kidney or cardiovascular liver disease was reduced by 24%. The study is based on a drug trial among several thousand people across dozens of countries who were living with both type two diabetes and kidney disease. They were followed for an average of about three and a half years. The research found for those taking the weekly injections kidney function declined more slowly overall than those getting a placebo. Researchers also found the risk of major cardiovascular events such as a heart attack was 18% lower. The risk of death from
