Nottingham Forest vs Wolverhampton Wanderers LIVE: Premier League result, final score and reaction
Jean-Ricner Bellegarde’s stunning strike earned Wolverhampton Wanderers their first point of the Premier League season with a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest.
In a frantic start to the game, New Zealand striker Chris Wood headed the hosts into a 10th-minute lead from a corner, having been left completely unmarked in the penalty area.
Bellegarde issued an immediate response, however, lashing home a sensational hit two minutes later.
Both sides failed to really create clearcut chances to snatch all three points as Forest remained unbeaten this season.

The match finishes 1-1 with Wolves furious at being denied a penalty and Nottingham Forest ruing Woods’ ability to stay onside. The first half was incredibly tight with no margin given from either side, Wolves starting the quicker with Ait-Nouri having an early effort cleared off the line. They would regret their failure to capitalise on their good start in the 10th minute as Wood converted a chance from a corner as he directed his header back across goal into the Wolves net to make it 1-0. O’Neil’s side would be level two minutes later as Bellegarde scored a wonderful goal from outside the Forest box. The ball flashed past the keeper into the top corner of the goal to make it 1-1. The match was competitive throughout the first half with four yellow cards brandished but little further goal mouth action. After the interval Forest were by far the better side and were creating chances for Woods, but the striker couldn’t convert, with Johnstone denying him with a fantastic save in the 64th minute. The Forest striker would be at the centre of things as he clearly handled the ball while defending a free-kick, which left Wolves and O’Neil incensed by the referee’s decision not to award a clear penalty. Woods almost dealt a cruel blow to Wolves as he had the ball in the back of the net in the 78th minute, but he was deemed offside and the goal was ruled out. Forest edged the game overall with 51.8 percent of possession, with five shots on target from a total of 16 giving them an xG of 1.16. A better showing than their opponents who only managed an xG of 0.8 from their three shots on target, all of which came in the first half, from their 11. Forest will feel they did enough to edge a win in their performance but Wolves can feel hard done by not to be awarded a penalty that may have awarded them their first win of the Premier League season.

A corner from Elanga caused the hosts all sorts of problems and the ball bounced around the penalty area before falling to the edge of the six-yard box. CUNHA! Almost a spectacular effort. The forward was still positioned wide after taking a corner and as the ball was played wide to him from a packed area on the outside of the Forest penalty area he struck his shot first time. The ball curled towards goal and had everyone’s watching it move towards goal. But to the City Grounds relief it didn’t come inside the post and flashed wide.

A game that has been end to end with it deservedly being 1-1 between Nottingham Forest and Wolves at the interval. Wolves started the brighter and almost took the lead in the opening minutes as Ait-Nouri had his effort cleared off the line. Despite quality pressing and vast pressure from the visitors Forest took the lead through a Wood header. A corner from the right by Anderson was floated to the back post where the New Zealander was stood unmarked to redirect the ball back across goal into the corner of the net for the host to take the lead in the 10th minute. Two minutes later however Wolves were level from a thunderous strike by Bellegarde into the top corner of the goal. It was a strike from nothing but what Wolves have deserved for their first half performance. O’Neil’s team have created six shots with half of them on target, giving them an xG of 0.77 compared to Forest’s xG of 0.28 from their two efforts on target from their six shots. An extremely even game, the passion split 50.4 percent to 49.6 percent in favour of Wolves. Yet the game has seen 19 fouls in this half, with four cards (Wolves 3, Forest 1). Both sides will need to be careful with this moving forward.

Cunha perhaps too greedy as he fired over the bar. The attacker had options left and right of him as he progressed into the Forest penalty area. A reverse pass left towards Lemina would have played the midfielder in one on one with the goalkeeper with the Wolves player favourite to finish. But Cunha went for glory and cost his side a golden chance to take the lead just before half-time.

A glorious but difficult ball over the top for Wood to control from Gibbs-White. The English midfielder was just inside the Wolves half on the right hand side as he floated the ball forward towards Wood between the central defenders of Wolves, but the New Zealander couldn’t control. A potential golden chance, but only the elite would control that pass.
