The Etihad Stadium and the City Ground have been identified as two desirable destinations by Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz, according to reports in Brazil.

Despite having issued a spend north of £130 million already in the January transfer window, Manchester City remain very much active in the market and could yet welcome further new faces into Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad.

The Manchester City manager has previously insisted that the club had simply moved forward their plans of a rebuild regarding their first-team squad, having opted against heavy investment to refresh their options during the last transfer window.

As such, Txiki Begiristain and his colleagues in recruitment have acted fast to bring in Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis for the central defensive ranks, as well as Omar Marmoush in their forward line.

But as difficulties remain on the field in competitive matches, and Rodri remains some distance away from returning to action following a double-knee injury, Manchester City fans have been calling out for business in the defensive midfield position.

And according to the information of BolaVip this week, Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz ‘wants a transfer’ to either Manchester City or Nottingham Forest in the remaining days of the ongoing winter market.

Pep Guardiola’s side are said to want the Brazil international on a straightforward loan agreement without an obligation to buy, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, while the Turin-based club are aiming for a sale or loan with a purchase obligation.

As for the Nuno Espírito Santo coached club, it is claimed that Nottingham Forest are ‘willing to make a large investment’ to sign the midfielder, despite there being no mention of a transfer fee within the report.

For now, it remains to be seen whether Manchester City and Juventus can come to a compromise over the midfielder, and whether City themselves believe their former player is someone worth the potential future investment.

Pep Guardiola’s mainstay defensive midfielder Rodri is not expected to make a return to action until the back-end of the season, and perhaps not even until the summer’s FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

The Manchester City head coach recently spoke on the importance of the defensive midfield position in his operation, on which he explained, “Of course it is!

“Every position is important to perform well, and of course we have to replace this time without Rodri with two players that are not proper, proper holding midfielders for many reasons. But we’ll see in the future what we have to do.”
