Letsile Tebogo of Botswana won the gold medal with a 19.46-second time, while fellow American Kenny Bednarek took silver with a 19.62. Lyles took third with a 19.70-second time.
The race appeared to take everything out of Lyles, who was shown trying to catch his breath for multiple moments after the run, with trainers even coming out to check on him.
The 27-year-old sprinter is hoping to earn two more golds, as he's also competing in both 4x4 relays for the United States. He now has three Olympics medals in his career, also winning bronze in the 200-meter run at the Tokyo Olympics.
