The match between Ajax and PSV on Sunday the 2nd of November will be played without visiting supporters. The league champions announced on Monday that, with fears of anti-Semitic chants, the away section in the Johan Cruijff Arena will remain empty.

The decision has been branded by PSV “as a precaution to prevent hurtful chants from negatively influencing the atmosphere and the match. The reason is a number of incidents during the last meeting (1-1) in February and an earlier warning and sanction from the municipality of Amsterdam.”

“For both clubs and chain partners, there is zero tolerance for anti-Semitic slogans. At the same time, there is the fear that some of the away fans will not be able to resist the temptation to verbally abuse their Amsterdam rivals.”

General manager Marcel Brands provided further explanation, “We want to make it clear that we will not accept such chants. Our supporters’ association is involved in the decision-making process. In Amsterdam, the responsibility we take is praised. If everyone dares to look in the mirror, we can tackle the excesses together.”
