Ferran Torres, who started for Barcelona in their 4-2 defeat against Osasuna last night, expressed disappointment after the team’s first loss in the league.

He reflected on the missed opportunity to make it eight wins from eight, admitting that the team did not perform at their best on a challenging pitch.

Torres emphasised that despite the setback, Barcelona must quickly shift their focus to their upcoming Champions League match against Young Boys, which is only 48 hours away.

“We were unable to make the 8 out of 8 we wanted,” said the forward as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

“We didn’t have our best game possible on a difficult pitch, but in 48 hours we have another game and now we have to think about Young Boys and the Champions League,” he added.

No excuse for the loss

The young forward acknowledged that there were no excuses for the defeat. He pointed out that Osasuna were more effective, while Barcelona needed to be more self-critical and learn from their mistakes to improve.

Torres also commented on the game itself, noting that the team showed more character in the second half but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome.

“There are no excuses, they were effective and we have to be self-critical, learn from our mistakes and turn things around.

“In the second half, we had more personality, but it didn’t help us turn the match around,” he noted.

Criticism of his performance

Despite his efforts, Torres faced harsh criticism from both fans and journalists alike. The former Manchester City forward, who has often been used as a substitute at Barcelona, has struggled to make a consistent impact since his arrival.

However, he has occasionally been effective when coming off the bench. In this match against Osasuna, he was given the opportunity to start but failed to make the most of it.

His performance drew particular attention when he missed a crucial chance just before half-time, which led to a wave of negative reactions on social media.
