Former EURO U-21 champion with Italy Nicola Ventola is adamant Inter Milan are playing ‘spectacular football’ after a sublime showing against Atalanta.

During an interview with Viva La Futbol via FCInterNews, the 46-year-old compared the Nerazzurri with perennial Premier League champions Manchester City.

Inter put Atalanta to the sword last Friday. Marcus Thuram’s double inspired the Scudetto holders to a superb 4-0 triumph against La Dea.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s men were supposed to give the Italian champions a run for their money at Giuseppe Meazza.

However, the visitors seemed powerless, with Inter dominating the game from the first whistle.

Indeed, Berat Djimsiti’s early own goal marked the beginning of Atalanta’s demise at Meazza. Shortly after, Nicolo Barella followed it up with a stunning strike.

Afterward, Thuram’s quick-fire brace at the start of the second half only served to put the icing on the cake.

Impressed with what he saw against the Europa League winners, Ventola praised Inter for their ‘spectacular football.’

He insists Simone Inzaghi’s playing style is similar to Pep Guardiola’s famous ‘tiki-taka.’

Bot managers are relying on direct football and dynamic movements.

“If you are facing an Inter like this, it is difficult,” Ventola said. “Right now, I compare them to City for the way they play, the automatic and natural movements.

“They play great football in Europe.”

Inter’s energetic start against Atalanta left a telling impression on Ventola.

“Atalanta were on the ropes from the start. Gasperini’s team is used to playing in one-on-one situations. On Friday, they were backward, waiting.”

Additionally, Ventola singled out Barella as a point of difference.

“But what game did Barella play? Inter must enjoy the present. They play spectacular football. He destroyed Atalanta.

“I give credit to Inzaghi for how he has made the team grow,” Ventola concluded.

Inter will return to action on September 15 when they head to the Brianteo Stadium to meet Monza.
