Nike Brings Innovation and Sustainability to the Classic Gray Sweatshirt

Introducing Nike Forward, The Swoosh's most innovative apparel innovation since Dri-Fit. The process takes fewer steps than traditional Nike knits or wovens, making for a 75% reduction compared to its typical knit fleece.

The fabric is created with needle punch machines and requires zero water to produce. The process took over five years to perfect, with details like raw pockets and a dye-less design adding to the design's sustainability.

Nike describes the technology in a press release.

Nike Forward can be made with a diverse range of layers, including industrial and post-consumer waste, and can be precisely tuned for athlete needs. It is a testament to audacious imagination and hands-on experimentation with the most advanced proprietary sport science, digital tools and manufacturing techniques. Not only does it solve problems for athletes, Nike Forward continues Nike’s legacy of setting new aesthetic and performance standards for sport.

Nike Forward makes its debut as a gray hoodie and crewneck sweatshirt on September 15. Take a closer look at the offering in the gallery above.
