Nicolas Kuhn has long had a goal of playing in the UEFA Champions League, and on Wednesday night he achieved that ambition at Celtic Park.

The fact that he was able to experience the world-famous Paradise atmosphere and also play his part in a stunning 5-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava only helped to enhance the experience.

And having now played his first game in the competition, he’s looking forward to further Champions League matches, beginning with a trip to his homeland in 10 days’ time for a match against Borussia Dortmund.

“It was unbelievable and the craziest thing I ever experienced,” he admitted. “It’s been a long journey and finally arriving in the Champions League in such a stadium was unreal. It was more than what I expected. After the anthem it was so loud.

'Everyone said that it’s amazing and they are special nights, so I was really looking forward to it, and now I can say that I played in the game here, so I’m really happy.'

“My goal has always been to play in the Champions League. When I was on loan for a year from Bayern, I was in the second league in Germany, but the goal was always the Champions League and the national team, so it’s going all in a good way.

“It was just the first game but it was an important start for us. Now we just focus on the next game and every game that’s coming, and we’re going to give 100 per cent.”

Next up for Brendan Rodgers’ side is a League Cup quarter-final at home to Falkirk this Sunday.

It’s a clash between the top side in the Premiership and the Championship league leaders, and Kuhn is looking forward to the game and the chance to progress to the last four of the competition.

“You have to show respect for every opponent, but we’re going to focus on our strengths and if we keep doing what we’ve been doing then we’ll have a good chance.

'It’s been a really good start to the season and it was a really good game and we just want to keep going and take it into the next game.'

“Before I came in, I had some good talks with the manager and it was all about getting into those positions to score and create chances, so that’s what we’re doing and he’s helped me a lot.

“I think there are still levels to go to and there’s a lot more in me, so I hope I will achieve what I’m looking for.

“I knew that if I was fit then I’d play well. The team, the coaches, the staff have all helped me a lot and I’ve said it a lot of times that when I came in, it was a little bit difficult for me, but now I’m feeling good.

“If it’s going well, it’s really nice, and now that I’m settled in, I just feel well so the performances are coming as well.”
