Nico Williams leaves Spain camp with injury
Spain have taken yet another hit in the injury department following the news that both Ferran Torres and Bryan Gil had to leave international duty. This time Nico Williams is the man involved.
The Athletic Club star has been ruled out of international action with ‘physical discomfort’ as announced by both the Spain national team and his club.
This leaves Spain in a tricky spot, and they’ve responded by calling up Real Sociedad winger Sergio Gómez, who played for Spain in their gold-medal-winning effort at the Olympics during the summer.
This will be the 24-year-old’s first senior call-up, after representing his national team from U17 all the way to U23 level.
The winger has made nine appearances so far this season for Real Sociedad and has played for Manchester City, Anderlecht, Huesca and Borussia Dortmund so far in his career.
Spain will take on Denmark and Serbia during this international break, and we could possibly see some interesting attacking combinations, given the amount of injuries Luis de la Fuente is faced with.
