Nick Saban is more than just a celebrated sports figure — he’s also a proud father to two adult kids: Nicholas and Kristen.
The longtime and now-retired University of Alabama football coach married his wife Terry on Dec. 18, 1971. During their early years of marriage, the couple welcomed their children, Nicholas and Kristen, via adoption.

Nicholas Saban
Nick and Terry welcomed their son Nicholas early in their marriage through adoption.
He has been involved in his family’s philanthropic efforts and contributes to the Nick's Kids Foundation alongside his parents and sister.
Nicholas was previously married to Kelse Laney, with whom he shares a daughter named Amelie. Following his and Laney’s separation, Nicholas found love again and got engaged to Samira Magarov in 2020. Nicholas popped the question at his family’s lake house in Georgia, and the couple tied the knot two years later in 2022.
Samira shared a sweet birthday tribute to Nicholas in 2021, writing on Instagram, “Nicholas, there is no one in this world that understands me like you do. I cannot thank god enough for leading me to you.”
Nicholas has been photographed at various events alongside his wife, including Nick Kid's fundraisers and University of Alabama football games.
According to Samira's Instagram, the couple also enjoy spending time with Nicholas’ daughter Amelie. Nick spoke about his granddaughter on his weekly radio show, Hey, Coach, in 2016.
"My kids were always afraid of me," he noted of Nicholas and Kristen, "And most of the players are a little afraid of me. But little Amelie, she's not afraid of me at all. And I expect her to be afraid of me and she's not. It's kind of shocking, actually.”
He added, "I mean, I'm really, really moved by that. It means that through the years, I've mellowed enough that some little one that I love isn't afraid of me. And I really appreciate that."
Kristen Saban
Nick and Terry are parents to daughter Kristen, who joined their family via adoption.
Growing up in a family deeply rooted in football, Kristen developed her own passion for the sport and its community. She attended the University of Alabama, where she worked under her father, contributing to the football program as a student assistant, according to her LinkedIn.
Kristen then spent time as a sales assistant for the Tennessee Titans before pivoting to public relations and marketing roles for a few years, most notably as Mercedes Benz-Birmingham's marketing director. In 2020, she joined Nick’s Kids Foundation full-time and now serves on its board of directors.
Kristen and Adam Setas welcomed a son named James in 2020. On social media, she often shares updates about her child and moments with her dad and their continued involvement with Alabama football.
“From then ➡️ to now. You’ve always been my biggest supporter and I, yours. Happy Father’s Day to the best father a girl could ever ask for. ❤️,” Kristen wrote in a Father’s Day tribute in 2021, which featured a throwback photo of the father-daughter duo.
A year later, she shared another photo of her hugging her dad on-field, giving him a shout-out on National Coaches Day.
“Happy National Coaches Day to the best coach in the world. No one does it like you, no one fights and works as hard for their team like you do and no one coaches like you. You’re simply the best. #THEGOAT,” Kristen captioned it.
