Nick Harris: Fort Worth, I’m honored to be at Star-Telegram to cover the Dallas Cowboys
When I was a kid — as young as I can remember — all I wanted to do was talk about football.
The Xs and Os, the storylines, the underdogs, the big games.
Some of my earliest memories involve Colt Brennan and Hawaii making an unforgettable run to the Sugar Bowl and Boise State pulling off the unthinkable in the Fiesta Bowl against Oklahoma. G.J. Kinne becoming an immortal legend in my East Texas hometown as a preps star at Canton High School made the game feel larger than life. Marion Barber III rumbling through defenders and powering his way into the end zone marked some of my fondest Cowboys memories.
In my later youth years, my affection for TCU football grew during the ups-and-downs of the Andy Dalton-Rose Bowl era, the Casey Pachall fiasco and the Trevone Boykin experience. Along with that affection also came a high intrigue in the Dallas Cowboys and the spectacle that they created every Sunday, no matter what the final result looked like.
It’s a spectacle I still enjoy to this day.
After four years of working in college football recruiting, I was presented with the opportunity to join the Dallas Cowboys beat in 2022 with DallasCowboys.com.
I immediately made the jump.
A year and some change later, I’ve made the jump once again to covering the Cowboys for the Star-Telegram.
It’s a dream come true to be in this role. After following and reading my predecessor, Clarence Hill, for literally my entire life, it’s an honor to fill this position for a community of readers that I was once a part of.
For those who know me, I’m so thrilled and thankful for you being a part of my journey — no matter how small or big. For those who will get to know me, I hope you come to learn that I will stop at nothing to consistently grow and develop as a reporter, writer and storyteller to provide you, the Star-Telegram community, with the best coverage the beat has to offer.
I know there are kids out there who are just like I once was: watching the Cowboys week-in and week-out, following the team’s every move and dreaming of one day being a part of the coverage. I owe it to that version of myself and to those kids to give it my all here at the Star-Telegram. I’m ecstatic to have everyone else along on the ride.
