The New York Rangers picked up Arthur Kaliyev off NHL waivers on Monday, the team announced.

The Los Angeles Kings placed Kaliyev on waivers on Sunday. He carries a $825,000 cap hit on a one-year contract he signed with the Kings in the off-season.

The right winger has not played in the NHL this season with Los Angeles. He suffered a fractured clavicle in training camp that sidelined him for about two months.

Eventually, he made five appearances with the AHL's Ontario Reign in a conditioning stint. He's scored a goal and recorded an assist in those five contests, along with eight penalty minutes and a minus-two rating.

Kaliyev was since activated from IR and was recalled to the Kings but never featured for the Pacific Division club.

The Kings selected the 23-year-old 33rd overall in the 2019 NHL draft. Since then, Kaliyev has played 188 games for the team over parts of four seasons.

The 2022-23 campaign was his best in Los Angeles, scoring 13 goals and 28 points in 56 games. However, injuries held him back from his 40-point pace.

Last season, Kaliyev played 51 games for the Kings, scoring seven goals and 15 points. For the second half of the campaign, Kaliyev spent most of his time in the press box. GM Rob Blake said he "didn't help us down the stretch."

In Los Angeles' off-season, Kaliyev reportedly submitted a trade request, but Blake did not find a deal that worked.

Kaliyev now gets a new opportunity with the Rangers, which are currently even on points with the New York Islanders for the bottom spot in the Metropolitan Division.

Kaliyev could help the team's goal-scoring without Chris Kreider, who has been dealing with an undisclosed upper-body injury. The left winger missed the Rangers' last game, a 6-2 win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday.
