NHL Three Stars: Tarasenko, Baertschi double up in victory

No. 1 Star: Vladimir Tarasenko, St. Louis Blues

The Russian superstar scored twice in the third period to help the Blues over the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 in the 2017 Winter Classic at Busch Stadium. Tarasenko had a busy afternoon throwing 13 shot attempts at Corey Crawford’s net and improved his career production against Chicago to 12 goals in 19 regular season games.

No. 2 Star: Sven Baertschi, Vancouver Canucks

Each time Baertschi scored he helped give the Canucks the lead, with his second and final tally of the night the difference in a 3-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche. Ryan Miller made 24 saves and Bo Horvat opened the scoring with his 11th of the season. Vancouver now has themselves a four-game winning streak and are a point out of a wild card spot.

No. 3 Star: Cory Schneider, New Jersey Devils

P.A. Parenteau, Sergey Kalinin and Taylor Hall provided the goals as the Devils blanked the Boston Bruins 3-0. Schneider stopped all 22 shots he faced to record his second shutout of the season and 23rd of his career. One of his biggest stops came late in the first period via a goal line stick save on Brad Marchand.

Honorable Mention: Alex Steen reached milestones of 300 assists and 500 points with a goal and an assista … Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook joined Brad Richards for the record of most appearances in an NHL outdoor game (five) … Parenteau’s goal was his fifth in eight games.
