Artemi Panarin was the hero in New York City on Sunday night, scoring a power-play goal 4:46 into overtime to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3. The Rangers move on to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time since the 2016-17 season.

Panarin wasn’t going to let his chance slip once the Rangers went on a power play 2:55 into overtime after Penguins forward Brock McGinn was called for holding. Late on the man-advantage, the Russian sniper got the puck on the right side and fired a shot past goalie Tristan Jarry, who had just returned from a foot injury to start Game 7. The netminder made his playoff debut, but it turned out to be the end of his postseason as well, thanks to Panarin.

The sold-out Madison Square Garden crowd erupted into a frenzy and fans at home didn’t miss out as they got to hear a legendary call from Sam Rosen — one that gets better every time you hear it.

The Rangers preach the motto No Quit in New York and it definitely served them right in this series. The Blue Shirts rallied from a 3-1 series deficit, staving off elimination twice before forcing overtime in the series-clincher. This is just the third time in franchise history that the Rangers overcame a 3-1 series deficit.

New York will play Carolina in the second round. The Hurricanes beat the Boston Bruins in Game 7 on Saturday night.

Rangers fans are ready for more, Sam Rosen!
