Former NHLer Reid Boucher erased from his OHL team's record books

The Ontario Hockey League's Sarnia Sting have deleted Reid Boucher from their record books after he pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal sexual conduct against a minor.

Boucher was 17 at the time of the incident where he sexually abused a 12-year-old girl in 2011 while he was a member of the U.S. National Team Development Program. The victim was part of his billet family.

As part of his plea, Boucher will avoid upfront jail time, according to The Detroit Free Press.

“The Ontario Hockey League had no prior knowledge of allegations made against Reid Boucher from actions during his time with USA Hockey,” OHL spokesperson Josh Sweetland said via Mark Malone of The Sarnia Observer. “The case is currently before the courts and the league will take necessary action once the matter has been fully addressed.”

Two more women came forward on Friday as The Athletic’s Katie Strang reported that Boucher tried to solicit sexually explicit photos from them over Facebook, when he was 21 years old and they were 15 and 17, respectively.

Boucher’s attorney, Pamella Szydlak, wrote the following statement to Strang:

“It appears that these allegations concern conduct that allegedly occurred 8 years ago. Based on what I have been told, these allegations were investigated and found to have no merit. Neither individual went to the police in 2014. More important, Reid Boucher is a completely different person today than he was many years ago.”

Boucher scored a Sting single-season record 62 goals during the 2012-13 OHL season, breaking the previous mark of 58 goals set by Steven Stamkos.
