NHL players A.J. Greer, Sonny Milano arrested on assault charges

Columbus Blue Jackets forward Sonny Milano and Colorado Avalanche forward A.J. Greer were arrested early Sunday morning at a Greenwich Village apartment after allegedly assaulting an acquaintance, according to the New York Post.

The incident reportedly occurred after the victim tried to up-charge the group on their four-figure bill from trendy club 1 Oak. Authorities arrested Milano and Greer around 6:30 a.m. after the victim was left with jaw and rib pain, as well as injuries to his neck and bicep.

Both were charged with misdemeanour assault and then released with a court date set tentatively for September 4th, a few days before NHL training camps begin. Both players are restricted free agents awaiting new contracts.

Milano was drafted 16th overall by the Blue Jackets in 2014 and played eight games at the NHL level before being assigned to their AHL affiliate in November.

Greer was drafted by Colorado in the second round of 2015. He played 15 NHL games with the club in 2018-19 before finishing the season with their AHL affiliate.

Both teams have released statements surrounding the incident.

The Sr. Vice President of Communications for the Avalanche, Jean Martineau, told USA Today Sports, "we are aware of the allegations surrounding AJ Greer. We will wait the end of the investigation to comment."
