NHL Insider ‘Wouldn't Be Surprised’ If Igor Shesterkin Becomes Highest Paid Goalie
Igor Shesterkin is well on his way to making history.
Next season, Shesterkin is set to become an unrestricted free agent, leading to questions on what his next contract may look like.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman seems to believe that Shesterkin will sign a mega contract that should change the way goaltenders will be paid in the future.

“I wouldn't be surprised if he’s going to be the number one paid goalie in the NHL,” Friedman said.
As it currently stands, Carey Price still holds the record for the highest contract for a goalie as he’s making $10.5 million per season despite technically being retired while Sergi Brobrbski trails slightly behind at $10 million per year.
According to the New York Posts’ Mollie Walker, there’s reason to believe that Shesterkin’s camp is aiming for as high as $12 million a year.
By the way Shesterkin has been playing especially in last year’s playoffs, taking the Rangers all the way to the Eastern Conference Final, it’s hard to imagine a world where he does not receive a record-setting contract.
Leon Draisaitl also just signed a contract that will make him $14 million per season, which changes the market for superstar caliber players.
While goalies are valued differently than forwards, Shesterkin is the Rangers’ franchise player and he is the key to helping the franchise win its first Stanley Cup since 1994, so his value is priceless.
