If you haven't seen what happened, the two teams were set to face off in Laine's return to Columbus. Before the game, Laine bashed the Blue Jackets for their lack of competition during his time.

This led to the Blue Jackets making life hard on him during the game on Monday night. After six shifts, the boo birds, and four hits against, Laine left the game with an apparent injury.

Now back to what the insider had to say.
The latest NHL insider to share their opinion was Jeff Marek. He had this to say:
"I think they were condescending, okay, for sure condescending, biting, maybe. There's some honesty in there too... if that's how Laine feels, that's how Laine feels. Columbus doesn't have to agree with it, yeah, that's the way he felt, okay, that's the way he felt, and he moves on. You've given that team an issue now, the issue is everybody against Laine."

Marek isn't wrong. Laine is entitled to feel how he feels, however, if he and the Canadiens didn't want this to turn into a huge deal, that could have been left behind closed doors.
Instead, Laine told the media, and it blew up. When Marek says, "The issue is everybody against Laine," that is exactly what happened. Laine gave the Blue Jackets fuel, and unfortunately, it led to him being removed from the game with an injury.

Regardless, this is a good reminder that when you bash your former teammates and organization, they will likely respond the way that Columbus did, and it will make life very tough on the player who speaks out.
