NHL Hockey Fantasy Waiver Wire Defenseman Pickups January 12 - Go with Gudas
On every game day this season, THN Fantasy will highlight players and goalies for fantasy managers to stream or roster for the rest of the season. The recommended players and goalies can be used in standard fantasy leagues or for daily fantasy games
Simon Edvinsson, DET vs, SEA (5% rostered)
Edvinsson, selected sixth overall by Detroit, is almost criminally under-rostered at 5 per cent. He comes into Sunday's game with helpers in two straight contests and has 16 points, 45 shots on net, 68 blocked shots, 37 hits and a plus-4 rating over 37 appearances. Edvinsson is averaging 20+ minutes a contest while skating in the top-four for the Red Wings. Moritz Seider is the top-blueliner in Hockeytown but Edvinsson is a solid second option.
Radko Gudas, ANA @ CAR (35% rostered)
Gudas, far from being known for his scoring prowess, has a goal and six assists over his last 12 contests. Those seven points has upped his season's production to 10 points in 41 games, showing how slow his start was. Why Gudas is rostered is because of his hits and blocked shots and he is up to 136 hits and 93 blocked shots on the season. Enjoy the production but don't expect that to continue.
Jake Middleton, MIN vs, LV (44% rostered)
Middleton, out from Dec. 12 with a hand injury, returned to action Tuesday, notching a goal and an assist. With Brock Faber sidelined, Middleton is taking on additional responsibilities, though he is not seeing power play time. Despite being shut out Thursday, Middleton already has six markers and nine apples in 31 contests this season, putting him on pace to exceed the season-high 25 points he tallied last season.
