The Edmonton Oilers have brought in another capable forward to blend into the Connor McDavid-Leon Draisaitl top six.

Edmonton has acquired restricted free agent Warren Foegele from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for defenseman Ethan Bear in the moments leading up to the NHL's free-agent window opening.

It's a definite boost to Edmonton's forward fleet, which is expected to also now feature Zach Hyman on a big-money free-agent contract. It does, however, expose a weakness on the back end. After losing Adam Larsson on the right side to the Seattle Kraken, Oilers GM Ken Holland has welcomed another hit to that position, and will reportedly fill the hole with Cody Ceci.

Foegele scored 10 goals and 20 points in 53 games last season, while fashioning impressive underlying numbers. His defensive game should help Edmonton's top lines — and stars — improve their complete 220-foot games.

Bear is coming off a bit of a disappointing season, seeing his usage dip while playing behind Larsson and Tyson Barrie. His numbers were still solid in a more sheltered role, and his upside remains very positive.
